A stage being erected for an upcoming Madonna concert collapsed, killing a 53-year-old French man and injuring six, two seriously, according to the BBC and CNN. The accident occurred at the Velodrome in Marseilles, France, where Madonna was scheduled to perform on Sunday as part of her Sticky and Sweet tour; the show has been canceled. "At this point we don't know how it happened, but we are confident no one else is still under the rubble," a French police officer told CNN.

"My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news," Madonna said in a statement issued by her representative, Liz Rosenberg, according to CNN.

Madonna arrived in Marseille, France, on July 19 to visit the family of a 53-year-old lighting technician who was killed on July 16 after the stage set for the singer's concert collapsed, according to People.com. The accident also killed a 23-year-old man from Great Britain and hospitalized at least eight other workers, many of whom the singer visited at two nearby hospitals. "My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families," Madonna said in a statement last week. The singer was scheduled to perform at Marseille's Velodrome, a 66,000-seat venue, on July 19. That show has since been cancelled.
