Frameline33: The San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival (aka "The biggest queer film festival on earth") is all over until next summer.
Here's our whirlwind overview of some of the highlights you'll be wanting to add to your Netflix queue in the coming year or be looking for at a queer film fest near you — especially if you live in Los Angeles (Outfest.org) or Philadelphia (QFest.com) where those ginormous LGBT film festivals kick off this weekend as well!
Ten Highlights for the Girls:
And Then Came Lola
A sexy, inventive San Francisco love story about a girl named Lola who races to beat the clock, keep her girlfriend and… achieve her climax! A gorgeous cast of out lesbian and bisexual actresses star in this fun riff on the classic arthouse hit, Run Lola, Run.
The Baby Formula
In this creative comedy-drama, a lesbian couple pursues the new technology of making babies without sperm. Their simultaneous pregnancy brings on lesbian drama galore against a backdrop of being filmed by a documentary film crew!
Drool
Laura Harring (of Mulholland Drive fame) stars as Anora, who lives a miserable existence with her abusive racist husband until her perky new African American neighbor Imogene (Jill Marie Jones) helps her see the lesbian light! Think Thelma & Louise meets Lianna with a twist of Little Miss Sunshine!
Ferron: Girl On The Road
This captivating portrait of women's music legend Ferron showcases terrific performances of her many hits and celebrates her life as an artist.
Girl Seeks Girl (Chica Busca Chica)
This hot and hilarious lesbian soap opera takes you on a wild ride through the mixed up love lives of a group of sexy Madrid lesbians including the unbelievably gorgeous Spanish TV star Celia Freijeiro. Think: The L Word meets Almodovar!
Sharon Gless steals the show as aging butch dyke Hannah who grapples with the homophobia of her lover Rachel's family as she flashes back across their lifelong love affair in this ambitious and exceptionally well-written drama based on the play by Claudia Allen.
I Can't Think Straight
This second feature from Shamin Sarif (The World Unseen) follows the love story between two stunning British-Indian women in London (Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth, the stars of The World Unseen).
Night Fliers
This debut feature from Sara St. Martin Lynn is a smart, tender, slowly unfolding coming of age tale that beautifully captures the details of growing up different in small town America. Tomboy teen Jesse copes with bully Brenda at school, has an obsession with insects, lifts rocks to build her biceps and hangs out with her fellow proto-queer misfit pals Howie and Jacob.
El Nino Pez
From the director of the acclaimed intersex drama, XXY comes this imaginative tale of love between 20 year-old upper class Lala (XXY's super cute star Ines Efron) and her family's young Paraguayan maid.
Training Rules
"No drinking, no drugs and no lesbians." This inspiring documentary follows Penn State women's basketball champ Jennifer Harris as she takes on the institutionalized homophobia of coach Rene Portland. This one took home the Frameline33 Audience Award for Best Documentary.

This ambitious chronicle of French politics and the counter-culture spans forty years in the lives of ménage a trois Catherine, Yves and Herve. From the directors of Cote d'Azur, Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau.
Boy
This unapologetically romantic coming of age tale from the wonderful Filipino director Auraeus Solito (The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros) recounts a young man's infatuation (and conquest) of a young macho dancer in a Manila club.
An Englishman in New York
Reprising his legendary portrayal of British queer pioneer Quentin Crisp (originally brought to the small screen in The Naked Civil Servant) out gay actor John Hurt brings to life Crisp's later years in New York City.
Fruit Fly
From writer-director-composer H.P. Mendoza (Colma: The Musical) comes this new San Francisco musical celebration of a Filipina fag hag — aka "fruit fly" (brilliantly brought to life by L.A. Renigen).
Hollywood je t'aime
Tres' hot Eric Debets stars as French tourist Jerome looking for gay love in Hollywood where he learns all about the boulevard of broken dreams in this enchanting American comedy from Jason Bushman (Serene Hunter).
Mr. Right
A cornucopia of Brit boys exchange partners in the colorful gay Anglo comedy about the search for you know who. Best gay date movie of the year!
Patrik, Age 1.5
Expecting a one and a half year-old toddler from the adoption agency, gay Danish suburbanites Sven and Goran are surprised by the arrival of 15 year-old juvenile delinquent homophobe Patrik in this crowd-pleaser which took home the Frameline33 Audience Award for Best Feature Film.
Pop Star On Ice
This behind-the-scenes documentary looks at the life and career of flamboyant professional figure skater Johnny Weir.
Pornography
This dark, sexy (non-pornographic) drama from talented Los Angeles editor David Kittredge serves up a wildly cinematic roller-coaster ride about the mysterious disappearance of a gay porn star.
From John G. Young (Parallel Sons) comes this intense drama about a gay Black teen from New York who navigates ignorance, corruption and crime in the rural South as he also develops unexpected connections.
