Paula Abdul Gives Ellen DeGeneres Her Blessing

84272759 While fans fell on both sides of the fence after this week's news that Ellen DeGeneres will be joining American Idol as a permanent fourth judge, one celebrity very closely related to AI gave the out comedian and talk show host a stellar endorsement. In a classy and composed move, Paula Abdul released a statement saying, "Ellen DeGeneres is wildly funny and talented in her own right," and wished DeGeneres and the reality show "only the best of luck."
Abdul, a popular and polarizing judge on the singing competition since its premiere back in 2002, surprisingly left the hit show over contract disputes last month. Since splitting with Idol, Abdul has appeared as a guest star on an episode of Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva, and she is currently preparing to guest-host the VH1 Divas special event, with superstars Jennifer Hudson, Sheryl Crow, Cyndi Lauper, Adele, Leona Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, and Kelly Clarkson all set to perform. The musical event will also feature celebrity presenters including Lauren Conrad, Kathy Griffin, Toni Braxton, the cast of the new Fame remake and Ryan Kwanten of HBO’s True Blood. VH1 will air the music event live on September 17 at 9 p.m.

The upbeat Abdul posted a message Thursday on her Twitter in anticipation of the gig: "Heading to the big apple today. Rehearsal, Rehearsal, Rehearsal! Divas is readily approaching. Only 1 week away! <3>
